IT BEGINS!

We've started stripping down the shell, and after less than an hour we've already encountered our first major problem - well we had already been severely warned of this issue but being stubborn, determined and positive sort of people we decided to go for it anyway.

It looks like the old girl has sustained some accident damage somewhere along the line, in the form of a front end bump or something.

As you can see below, someone has done their best to straighten it out Jehu style (a more accurate term may be "bodge") and the actual chassis rail doesn't appear bent at all. However as you can see from the picture the drivers side inner wing has a rather impressive crease along most of its length.

As we want to ultimately create this in to a competition car, we really need to put this back as it should be in order to keep the shell as strong as possible and be confident that it is not badly twisted in any way.

We have 5 potential options and would like your comments as to what might be the best to do. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each option?

1 - The "Music tech" option: Go to the pub, then come back, hide the crease with gaffa tape of a matching colour, then wake up the next morning and pretend it was never there...
2 - The "determined" option: Try to repair it properly, bashing it back in to shape or making a new piece of wing and welding it in
3 - The "defeatist" option. Give up on the whole shell and source a different project
4 - The "lets set fire to our money" option: Buy a brand new inner wing from here for 185quid +tax & shipping from germany
5 - The "patient" Option: Try and source a second hand inner wing (to find one at the right place will take months, and could take years, but in the meantime we could be stripping down the shell and starting the other patching and preparation work we need to do because there's plenty of it)

  1. I'm amazed that Dan hasn't piped up with 'Option 1' yet!! Perhaps he has temporarily run out of gaffa tape or something??
...come to think of it, he may have used it all up on his own car which seems to be suffering with an ailment or two of its own...

Anyway, gaffa tape seems like a flawless plan to me, which is quite fitting when you think about it, since it is for a floor-less car! (To quote the wife of t'other Jehu: "The car is full of holes and rust. It really is a shell! Very funny u will have to see it. No engine and holes in the floor. They will be like the flintstones!")

I believe that a certain American president once said:
"If only the average American family could be a little more like The Waltons and a little less like The Simpsons", or words to that effect. Frankly I'd settle for the families of Jehu to be a little more like The Simpsons and a little less like The Flintstones... Wiiiiilllllmmmmaaaaa!

  2. So then it seems noone has an opinion, either that or they are keeping them to themselves, which is a little ominous!
    Give us your thoughts!

  3. I would like to say no 2! Althought a great fan of the gaffa method, (for all things) I feel it may add extra and unnecessary weight to the car!

Do it properly but with as little expense as possible!

  4. Right, I say - sell the shell and everything else in the garage and give Cas and me the money to spend it on something useful! ;-) There - problem solved! x (Chris - that'll probably get the comments up!!! at least from the Jehu's!)
